Ways to Support

Help us support young and vulnerable parents and their families

Rose of Durham is grateful to our community for their generous support of families in our community. There are many ways that you can provide support, from monetary donations, to gifts-in-kind, to volunteering.

Make a donation

Our lead agency, CFSD, processes gifts on behalf of Rose of Durham. You can find more information on the different donation methods they accept on their website.

Become a volunteer

Rose of Durham occasionally needs volunteers for child minding,  share and care room or lunch coordinators, and our bingo fundraising. If you are interested in becoming involved and would like details on our current volunteer opportunities, please email our volunteer coordinator at deneen.nolte@roseofdurham.com.

Donate gift cards

Rose of Durham accepts gift cards for Tim Hortons to be able to reward participants for regular attendance. If you’d like to support our participants, you can purchase and drop off Tim Hortons gift cards in $5 increments at our front desk anytime.

We also accept preloaded Presto cards so that young and/or vulnerable parents can access transportation to attend programs and counselling sessions. You can help by purchasing and dropping off preloaded Presto cards to our front desk at any time.

Order gift cards

Donate to Rose of Durham by purchasing gift cards from FundScrip for things you already buy such as groceries, gas, music, restaurants and movies. It’s easy – simply create a profile with FundScrip and then purchase gift cards directly from the site. Your order confirmation will show you how much money you raised for Rose of Durham with every order. View our Quick Start Guide (PDF) to learn more.

Donate in-kind

Rose of Durham gladly accepts new and limited gently used clothing for women (including maternity clothes) and for children size 6 and under. It must be in-season as our storage space is limited.

Before bringing items to Rose of Durham, please contact the office to provide a description of the items you wish to donate, and to set up a specific drop off day and time. Our donation drop off day for pre-approved items is generally every Thursday between 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Layette Program

Rose of Durham gives layettes to clients when their babies are born to ensure they have the items they need to support their babies at home. You can support this program through a monetary gift, purchasing items on our online gift registry (type in ‘Rose of Durham’ to find our list), or by purchasing items from our list below and bringing them to our office.

We will always accept brand new baby clothing for our layette program no matter the season, as well as unopened diapers, wipes, baby formula, baby food, full size unopened toiletries, and cleaning products.  Due to health and safety regulations we cannot accept baby powder, Q-tips, or any items with ties.

In each layette, we try to include:

  • Undershirts, sleepers and outfits (newborn to 18 months)
  • Bibs (velcro only)
  • Fitted crib sheets
  • Receiving blankets
  • Washcloths and hooded towels
  • Socks and booties
  • Newborn mittens and hats
  • Baby wash and lotion
  • Diaper cream and vaseline
  • Breast pads
  • Baby wipes and newborn diapers

Our families are always very appreciative of the layettes they receive, and the community support they represent.

Christmas Sponsorship

With your help, we can bring Christmas and the true holiday spirit to the Rose of Durham’s young and/or vulnerable families through our Christmas Sponsorship program. You can choose to sponsor a family directly through our Family Sponsorship Program (PDF) or you can contribute to our annual Christmas party by providing toys and/or gift cards to be given to each family that attends our party. Toys should be brand new baby and young toddler toys (please, no stuffed animals) in the $10-$20 price range to ensure each child receives a similar gift. Gift cards should be in $10.00 denominations for grocery stores, McDonalds, or Tim Hortons.
