We believe that the best place for a child to grow is with their family
At Rose of Durham, we believe that the best place for a child to grow is with their family, as long as they are safe and nurtured within that setting.
We support young and/or vulnerable parents and their children through holistic programs and services that focus on a strengths-based approach. Our services are flexible, responsible and accessible, so that we can adapt to meet each family’s needs. Parents are at the centre of their own service planning and can access a range of support options to best meet their needs. By nurturing each parent’s strengths and building their skills, we help families stay connected and provide safe places for their children to grow.
No matter who you call family, we’re here to help you stay connected and work towards a brighter future, together.
CFSD
Rose of Durham is a division of CFSD, an umbrella agency that provides help, hope and healing to individuals, young and/or vulnerable parents, gender-based violence survivors, couples and families.
Our history
Rose of Durham started in 1988 when a group of community members, many of whom were active in the Catholic faith community, came together to provide support services for parents under the age of 21. They started with one staff member and a mighty team of volunteers who helped young parents learn life skills, and a few years later, provided counselling and childcare for clients.
Over the past three decades, Rose of Durham has continued to grow, secure more funding, provide a wider variety of programs, and hire more staff to support more young parents in Durham Region. Our mandate has now expanded to include young and/or vulnerable parents up to age 30, and includes parenting programs, life skill development support, prenatal support, playgroups, and a school program, all designed to strengthen young and/or vulnerable families.
In February of 2022, we merged with CFSD and became one of the divisions in this umbrella organization. Our mandate, client population and programming have remained the same.
